Jasper National Park

This large park that includes Jasper townsite became a national park in 1930. The Icefields Parkway passes through the park from SE to NW with numerous viewpoints. The Columbia Icefield allows visitors a close-up view of several glaciers that feed the cold, clear rivers of Alberta. High peaks of the Canadian Rocky Mountains frame swift rivers. Athabasca Falls thunders through rocky quartzite shelves into a narrow canyon. Canadian National Railways trains roll through Jasper townsite heading between Vancouver and Edmonton. Miette Hot Springs pools sit below the steep peaks, a relaxing soak at the east edge of the park. Maligne and Medicine Lakes also surrounded by mountain scenery with trees to their shores, past the Maligne Canyon trails and bridges offer many scenic stops. Pyramid Mountain above Jasper reflects to Pyramid Lake with nearby Patricia Lake surrounded by misty clouds at sunrise.
